Northern Virginia Landscaping Fall Prep

Your home's lawn has the ability to make or break the appearance of your home. With the fall and winter months quickly approaching, your lawn, if not prepared properly, will be affected by the cold weather months. Wherever you live in Arlington, VA, Mclean, VA or another Northern Virginia suburb, these steps can be taken to protecting the integrity of your lawn.

Fall feedings are the best way to ensure a beautiful lawn come spring in Northern Virginia. The roots of your grass during the hot, dry summer months become damage and need time to repair. Seeding has the ability to thicken up the law. Reseeding should be done on an annual basis, primarily in the fall between September and October. The staff at Green Acres also recommends that you aerate your lawn. Aeration enables water and fertilizer to run freely throughout your lawn. Aerating also has the ability to stimulate minerals in your turf.

The Northern Virginia fall is also the perfect time for you to plan spring bulbs in your garden. Spring bulbs require certain conditions for gestation. The cool weather allows the spring bulbs to chill, which is required to produce spring blooms.

Northern Virginia Trees and Shrubs also require attention and preparation during the fall months. Green Acres recommends that you prune any dead or diseased branches from trees and shrubs. Take some time and water trees and shrubbery. Deep water will allow trees and shrubs to properly hydrate one last time before the weather becomes too cold.

Leaves and other lawn and garden scrap collected during the Nothern Virginia Fall cleanup should be collected and put into a compost pile. Turning your compost at least once a week will speed up the decay of compost materials. Make sure that the materials that you add to your compost are not large. Always keep your compost pile covered in order to create prime conditions for compost decay.
