Consider Indoor Garden To Continue Your Northern Virginia Landscaping Throughout Your Home
Landscaping outside is a natural choice to improve the appearance of your Arlington, VA home, but bringing the outdoors inside through indoor gardening adds a whole new dimension. These tips will help get indoor gardening going, and bring your love for the outdoors in.
- Plants need light to grow and thrive, no matter if indoors or outdoors. When planting outdoors in your landscaping design, it is an immediate reaction to choose plants suited for the amount of sunlight available. The same is true with indoor gardening. Find space near windows, sliding glass doors or other light sources, as vegetable plants require more sunlight than the average houseplant.
- Choose plants that are pleasant to look at, in addition to producing the desired fruits and vegetables. Research the different leaf patterns, along with how large the plant may grow once it is flourishing, and base your decisions on that. For example, the fern-like pattern of carrot stems may be perfect for the corner of the room that leads outside. Consider coordinating the look of your indoor gardening with the outdoor landscaping you have already invested in.
- Plan out your indoor garden to allow for adequate space. Having fresh tomatoes at your fingertips is convenient, but not if you have to walk around the planting hanging in the middle of your room. You would plant a tree in the middle of your path outdoors, you take more time planning your landscaping than that.
- Choose plants that can be transplanted if necessary. Sometimes our green thumbs are a little too green and the potted vegetable plants outgrow their original pots and planters. The choice of moving them outside to a permanent location is nice to have when you run into trouble.
- Make sure your plants are not poisonous. Talk with gardening and landscaping experts to ensure the plants will not harm children and pets if consumed.
