Outdoor Lighting Types for Your Northern Virginia Home
Outdoor lighting is the perfect way to add another dimension to your landscape, as it makes your space warm and inviting for you and your guests. What’s more, outdoor lighting provides a sense of security and safety around your home.
Many different types of outdoor lighting, each providing a different lighting effect, are available today. No matter the type of lighting, all outdoor lighting must be able to withstand the elements and operate in many kinds of weather. Therefore, when choosing outdoor lighting, make sure they are designed to resist against corrosion, rust, and weather-related malfunction.
There are several types of outdoor lighting from which you can choose to incorporate in your Northern Virginia landscape. Types of outdoor lighting include:
- Uplights, or small spotlights, can accent specific features in your yard. This type of lighting illuminates an object from the bottom and is usually placed below rocks and plants.
- Inground and well lights lie flush with the ground, providing a discreet glow or bright light pointed upward.
- Downlights are hung above a certain level, so the light falls downward and illuminates a large area, such as a garden, walkway, or porch.
- Moonlights combine uplighting and downlighting effects to create shadow patterns.
Path lights are placed along the sides of a walkway or driveway to provide safety when walking along a path.
