Creating More Storage Space On Your Northern Virginia (Northern VA) Patio
When you think of the patio at your Vienna home, you probably never consider the potential for storage space it holds. Often times, homeowners across the Northern Virginia area — including homes in Falls Church, Arlington or McLean — consider a patio as a flat surface used for sitting or entertaining but, underutilize its capabilities.
Creative incorporating gives you the best of both worlds on your patio — a place for entertaining, relaxing and play, as well as a patio that adds storage space for your outdoor activities. Depending on the size of your Northern Virginia patio, you may find you have room for a small storage shed known as a summerhouse. A summerhouse is far more visually appealing than a typical storage shed, but serves the same purpose. Small gardening tools can easily be tucked-away in plastic boxes for protection against the elements, and even larger items like a lawnmower or trimmer can be stored away as well.
Using hard plastic storage boxes or containers is another easy way to create additional storage on your Northern Virginia patio. Sturdy containers with flat lids or tops can make for storage and additional seating. Simply purchase or fabricate a cushion for the top and you are all set. Your patio suddenly is transformed from a blank canvas to a storage area with comfortable seating.
The addition of raised box planters also allows for a decorative touch as well as outdoor patio storage. Cleverly built planters give you the perfect place to plant your favorite blooms, and give additional patio storage underneath. Typically, the storage area is accessible from a sliding door on the side or by removing the planter box on top.
And never forget the storage possibilities afforded by garden benches. The sturdy wooden benches, typically available at home improvement and garden stores, function much like the sturdy storage containers but simply look better on your patio. The cushion is removed to access the storage, and guests on your patio may never suspect the real purpose of the comfortable bench.
