Pondless Waterfalls a Low Maintenance Option for Beautiful Waterscapes
All waterfalls have to fall into a pond, requiring routine water cleaning and maintenance, right? Wrong! A pondless waterfall is exactly what it sounds like – a waterfall without the pond. A pondless waterfall spills into an underground basin that contains a pump system that circulates the water back up through an underground pipe to the top of the waterfall. The water never pools above the level of the rock and gravel fill, which gives it the appearance of a disappearing water stream. The waterfall can spill out between flat rocks, or through a rock with a hole drilled through it.
Beautiful and practical, pondless waterfalls offer all the aesthetic and soothing features of traditional waterfalls, without the worries of dirty water and routine maintenance. Pondless waterfalls are virtually maintenance free, requiring only periodic checks for algae. Disappearing waterfalls are easier to install than a pond and eliminates liability, as you don’t have to worry about pets or small children around a pond. Such as pond waterfalls, pondless waterfalls can be set to run on auto timer, or be turned on and off via an electrical switch. Pondless waterfalls require less water and electricity than a traditional pond.
Pondless waterfalls are an excellent option for small yards and spaces. Choose a spot in your yard that can accommodate a gravel bed and deep hole for the basin. For maximum appeal, add plants around the pondless waterfall, which makes it look like a natural element of your landscape. Wetland and marsh plants thrive around a light spray of water and wet roots, while violets can act as colorful groundcovers.
