Signs of spring are popping up all over Northern Virginia. Before you know it spring will be in full swing. Having been cooped up indoors all winter, Virginians are relieved when the warmer weather arrives. Have you noticed any areas of your exterior property that have been damaged by the harsh winter weather? One of the areas most effected you're the winter weather is your home's driveway. Constant exposure to cold temperatures along with snow and ice can cause cracks and weak point in your driveway. For those do-it-yourselfers, Green Acres Landscaping and Masonry, Inc. has put together a quick fix guide.
For those driveways that suffer from cracks or potholes two-inches or more in depth and width, gravel mix or concrete mix will suffice. Gravel mix contains pebbles that will reinforce the strength of the damaged area. Gravel mix is easily prepared using a small amount of water. The compound can be applied using a large putty or Spackling knife. Smooth the surface using the same tool.
Smaller cracks between a half an inch and two inches can be repaired using a much smoother compound. Sand mix is a finer material that can be worked in to more minor cracks. Even the smallest of cracks can cause serious damage to your driveway. Hairline cracks and depressions should be treated using masonry sealers that are sold in the form of caulking-gun cartridges. Run the gun along the crack allowing the sealant to completely fill the area.
When it comes to driveway Green Acres Landscaping and Masonry, Inc. is equipped to handle any degree of damage. If you are like most individuals, the warmer months are your busiest. Chances are you will not be able to attend to these problem areas yourself. Please contact Green Acres to discuss you driveway needs.
