Winterize Your Northern Virginia Flagstone Patio To Ensure Longevity
Your flagstone patio improves the appearance of your outdoor living space at your Northern Virginia home, and to ensure it provides the same inspiration and enjoyment year-after-year, follows these maintenance tips. Winterizing your flagstone patio is a simple way to ensure it lasts, and protects it during the long, cold, Northern Virginia winters.
Flagstone patio maintenance and winterizing tips include:
- Use a broom to remove all leaves, sticks and debris from the flagstone patio. This should be done regularly throughout the year, not only as a winterizing technique. Removing these unwanted items prevents the stones from being dislodged from the ground.
- Remove all weeds growing in the pea gravel between the larger flagstones. You may have to pull them by hand and use a garden tool to remove the roots below the surface. As the roots grow and get larger in size, they may cause the ground to shift under the flagstone patio and cause unevenness.
- Use a natural stone detergent to remove all mold from the flagstone patio. Follow the recommendations and guidelines provided by the manufacturer to ensure you do not damage the surface.
- Use a weed control product to prevent weeds from returning through the pea gravel. This simple step will make the next round of flagstone patio maintenance that much easier.
